FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
  • Q1
  • WHAT TYPE OF ARTWORK FILES DO YOU RECOMMEND?
  • A1
  • Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign (with fonts & links), Adobe PDF (Hi-Resolution and with all the fonts embedded), QuarkXpress.
  • Q2
  • HOW DO I PREPARE ART BOARD?
  • A2
  • Always define your document page size equal to your final trim size. Artwork should be submitted at the final size plus 0.125 inches of bleed on each edge. Our software automatically centers your file for printing. Your file should NOT have registration marks or color bars.
  • Q3
  • WHAT IS "SAFETY AREA"?
  • A3
  • Do not place any critical images or text beyond the safety zone, which is at least 1/8'' from the final trim size. This will help to avoid the image getting cut off when the finished piece is trimmed.
  • Q4
  • HOW DO I SETUP COLOR?
  • A4
  • All artwork for color printing should be completed and saved in CMYK mode. RGB color mode does not separate as process color correctly. Use only PANTONE and CMYK colors.
    * PANTONE: If you wish to use spot colors, they need to be mentioned in your estimate request, as they will change the total number of color plates, affecting the overall cost to run the job. They must also be specified in your working file as spot colors, or they will print using CMYK.
    * DUOTONE: You can save money on your project by using just two spot colors. The main advantage of choosing duotone is that you only need two color plates, reducing the cost of printing.
    * RICH BLACK: For large black area, printing with only 100% black is usually not dark enough. For deep, rich black color, consider this recipe: C=60%, M=40%, Y=40%, K=100%.
    * For Body Copy in Black: Use only 100% Black.
  • Q5
  • HOW DO I PREPARE FONTS & LINKS?
  • A5
  • If your file contains type matter, fonts should be provided as well. Another way to avoid font problems is to convert all type to either outlines or paths, depending on the software. All linked images for InDesign or QuarkXpress should also be provided in CMYK mode.
  • Q6
  • WHAT RESOLUTION SHOULD IMAGES BE TO GET THE BEST PRINT QUALITY?
  • A6
  • Under most circumstances you will want to use images with at least 300 dpi (dot per inch) to achieve the best print quality.
